As for the ophiolite rocks, they have low porosity and are less productive, and their waters are alkaline at times, as is the case in many springs in the interior, eastern and Al Batinah regions. The presence of blue ponds reflects calcite deposits, where the alkaline water of the springs mixes with the waters of the valleys that contain carbonic acid salts. In general, the pH of spring water in Oman ranges between 7.4 and 11.9. Some springs feed from groundwater in layers at great depths, which leads to heating the water before it comes out to the surface. Springs that are located in the northern part of the Oman mountains are hot most of the time.
